The annual English Learners Family Academic Symposium welcomes international students to the new school year, providing access to wrap around services for them and their families. Language was no barrier at the hands-on  stations for K-5th students to make mixed-media collages, play movement games, enjoy storytime and dig into silly sensory bins! So much fun playing, making, moving & exploring at the annual spring festival in Uptown Charlotte featuring art + music + food + ideas! PCA served as one of the only areas 100% dedicated to hands-on activities for the littlest festival-goers and their adults. The best part of creating is connection! We get to visit our little friends at Bloom preschool in Waxhaw for weekly art specials to introduce new artists (like Romero Britto!), materials & techniques. We read art storybooks, paint, glue, draw, learn about color mixing, shapes, lines, texture and always, always sing our absolute favorite song "Magic Paintbrush"! In May we helped celebrate local Charlotte history with interactive stations like the Queen's Jewels sensory bin, log cabin designing & building, a Trail of History scavenger hunt and even a low-tech version of Gutenberg's movable type printing press! As friends crossed over our little red bridge in Ballantyne's Backyard they found creative centers like Monet's lily pond, a printmaking lab, Starry Night sensory bins and a tinker table filled with loose parts. Kids of all ages also danced with scarves, played musical instruments and theatre games and acted out storybooks. So much art, music & dramatic play especially for the youngest festival-goers all led by our amazing professional teaching artists! Go to the Gallery for more pics!
